The Department of Daydreams

The Department of Daydreams is a project I am working on to scatter immersive public art installations like seeds around my hometown of Elkins, WV. So far, I have created several temporary versions of immersive installation artworks as a proof-of-concept for this idea. Below is a video of one of these, called Ice.

Ice was on display 2024-2025 inside Mycelium, at 214 Davis Avenue. Mycelium is closing, but depending what happens in that space next, Ice might be able to stick around and stay open.

The Vision:

My goal is for The Department of Daydreams to become a walking tour of public art installations, with five (or more!) locations in downtown Elkins. These semi-permanent installations will be free and publicly accessible during regular business hours, connected by an illustrated walking map. I have applied for funding to bring this dream to reality, and am hoping to start creating the first new permanent location of the Department of Daydreams in 2025-2026. The first new location will be located at the Wilt Building, in a small space that was once an old newsstand. You can follow along with this project at @department_of_daydreams on instagram.

Past Iterations:

The Department of Daydreams began as a series of temporary seasonal immersive exhibits in the back room of a local shop. Here are a few images of past installations.
